Greetings, Munn Families!
Please remember that today, the entire district will be engaging in an early release drill, and all students will be headed home 15 minutes early. For UPK, all parents are asked to arrive at exit 1 (same doorway as always) at 2:15 pm for pick up.
Please keep in mind that next Thursday, June 1 is our final half-day of the year for grades UPK – 12, and for our UPK families, your student also has a half-day on Friday, June 2. Designated pick-up persons can arrive at exit 1 (same doorway as always) around 11:15 a.m. for dismissal at 11:20 a.m.
For students in grades K-5:
While breakfast will remain available as normal, students will not be served lunch and they will not have specials on this day. With respect to dismissal, those who are being picked up will be called down to the cafeteria beginning at 11:40 a.m., and those taking the bus will be dismissed shortly after with buses rolling away from the building and on their way home at 12 p.m. If you are planning on picking up your child on this half-day, please send in a note ahead of time so that we can prepare for the busiest dismissal of the year, and we will open our doors to have you sign your child out at 11:30 am. As is our normal daily practice, no bus passes will be issued, so unless we have a pick up note, your child will take his/her normal bus home. Thanks in advance for your support with this half-day schedule.
June 1: Half Day for UPK-5 students:
Instructionally, the morning of June 1 will have a Fine Arts theme here at Munn School. Students and staff will be engaged in activities exploring the disciplines of Art and Music.
Student supports in the district:
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. Our parents, staff and community have clearly communicated to us that mental health and student behavior must be a priority in our work. Building our social-emotional learning skills has been an integral part of this effort, and last fall, we asked your child to reflect on their own experiences and approaches to learning via an online survey. We will be giving this survey again on June 13. The survey shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to complete. The SEL student survey data will be particularly helpful to ensure that the social and emotional learning actions are impactful, and decide whether to continue or change what we are doing. We are reflecting on our strengths and areas for growth based on the aggregate data, and will be using this to inform initiatives we will be putting into place in the future.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential, similar to other academic or attendance data.
After we have collected student responses, school personnel will collaborate on the following items:
• What are ways we can innovate to be more effective and equitable?
• Does the data suggest that any of our practices are ineffective? How could they be changed?
• What does this data make us think about in terms of our practice? About teaching and learning in general.
If you have any questions about this survey, please contact our Director of Student Services, Tim O'Connor, at (585) 349-5151. If you wish not to have your child take this survey, please contact me directly.
