Summer Reading 2020

Student readingHello Munn Friends and Families,

We made it to summer! Once again, we want to thank you for your partnership in creating a positive learning situation for your child these past few months. It goes without saying that we have been faced with many challenges, but I know that we are growing and learning as we navigate through these difficult times.  Thank you for your part in keeping our students learning and our community safe.

We hope that the at-home learning habits you and your child began this quarter will continue throughout the summer.  In the past we have noticed the number of students that are continuing to read each summer is diminishing, which results in a more difficult gap to bridge during the school year.  Please take a moment to look at the data graphs embedded in the many resources attached to Read Across America’s link below titled The Summer Reading Report that share the research and results of summer reading.  The link also has a variety of wonderful resources from books lists that encourage empathy, to different incentive programs like Barnes and Nobel’s annual challenge, to resources that help you understand struggling readers (understood.org), or resources to help your reader with difficult concepts (readwritethink.org).

Please take care this summer. Stay healthy and safe, and fill those beautiful minds with some great stories!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Bianchi, Mrs. Minicucci and Mrs. Schultz
